Customer payment options for contractors: deposits, bank payments, and financing

Understand deposits, ACH bank payments, and customer financing before sharing an estimate.

Clear payment terms help customers understand what is due and when. Agree on your scope, deposit, and final balance before work begins, and check the rules that apply to your business.

Start with a clear deposit and balance

State the deposit amount and when the remaining balance is due. In WorkCraft AI Pro, an eligible contractor with an active Stripe connection can share an accepted proposal with a payment option for the deposit or remaining balance. Customer checkout uses the accepted proposal balance, not a separate amount changed only on an invoice.

Give customers appropriate payment choices

Stripe Checkout may offer cards and supported wallets. Eligible US customers may also see ACH Direct Debit when the connected account has the necessary capability. Methods depend on the account, payment, location, and Stripe’s requirements.

ACH payments can take several business days to confirm. A processing payment is not yet a confirmed payment: check its status before scheduling around the funds and do not ask the customer to pay again while it is processing. If it fails, the customer can retry when the proposal permits.

Understand financing without overpromising

Eligible customers may see Affirm or Klarna and apply to pay over time. Approval, availability, and terms are determined by Stripe and the provider and are not guaranteed. The provider handles customer installments; the contractor receives funds according to Stripe’s applicable payout schedule and fees. Do not promise instant payout or approval.

In Profile and preferences, connected Pro contractors can turn customer financing on or off. It is on by default for existing connected accounts. Changes apply to new checkouts; already-open checkout links can retain earlier options until they expire. Turning financing off also makes Link unavailable in new checkouts because Link can offer Klarna.

Review the actual fees and payment status

Stripe charges processing fees to the connected account. Fees and timing vary by payment method and agreement; review your Stripe Dashboard before offering an option. WorkCraft AI does not add a per-payment fee. Refunds and disputes are managed in Stripe, where deadlines and provider terms apply.

Before you share a proposal

  • Explain the deposit and balance clearly.
  • Confirm your Stripe account is active and review your financing preference.
  • Check applicable fees and timing in Stripe.
  • Verify payment status before requesting another payment.
